How to have a dram good time at the first West Coast Whisky Féis – 22nd July

How to have a dram good time at the first West Coast Whisky Féis – 22nd July
The West Coast of Scotland is whisky-lover heaven. Who knows what makes the region’s whisky so special? Whatever the answer, there are some damn fine drams distilled here. If you fancy sampling some then you need to head to the first West Coast Whisky Féis in Oban on Saturday 22nd July. With a huge selection of West Coast whiskies to sample, nosing competitions, master classes, fantastic local food and plenty of West Coast bonhomie, a dram good time is guaranteed!

The festival is the brainchild of two locals and old friends, Euan and James, from the Oban Whisky & Fine Wines shop. The pair, both passionate about whisky, wanted to create an event where there’s something for all levels of whisky fans, from the whisky beginner to the connoisseur. The event takes place in one of Oban’s favourite venues, the Skipinnish Ceilidh House, which sits at the heart of the town with panoramic views over Oban Bay.

On arrival you’ll be presented with your very own dramming glass to use throughout the day (and take home!). Then you’re free to visit the exhibitors and enjoy a dram and a chat with the good folk from the distilleries. All of Argyll’s whisky-producing areas will be represented at the Féis, with exhibitors including Lagavulin, Kilchoman, Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain from Islay, Glengyle and Glen Scotia from Campbeltown, Tobermory from Mull and, of course, Oban. Around the hall, you’ll find plenty of spitoons for depositing your samples. All sample measures are 10ml and are included in the price of your ticket.

If you reckon you have a discerning palate, then make sure you visit the nosing table. The person whose answer card most closely matches the drams in the glasses will take home a great bottle of malt! Do you want to develop your palate? There will a series of masterclasses taking place at the feis, the details of which are yet to be announced.

With all these drams on offer you’ll need to make sure you have a bite to eat! Tuck into some seriously good grub from local producers. The town of Oban is the perfect setting for a whisky Féis.

As well as being home to one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, it’s also a buzzing town with fantastic restaurants, bars and cafés. Known as as ‘Scotland’s Seafood Capital,’ Oban is the place to sample the region’s fresh seafood. From award-winning fine dining to family-friendly gastro pubs to the freshest fish and chips, there's something for all tastes and budgets.

Tickets to the West Coast Whisky Féis cost £30 and include admission to Féis venues, samples from the exhibitors, a glass and lanyard, and entry to the nosing competition – oh, and a dram good time!
