Cream of the crop - Lomond Shores Farmers’ Market

Cream of the crop - Lomond Shores Farmers’ Market
In Argyll there’s a thriving community of food producers and you’re never far from an epicurean discovery. That’s particularly true around Loch Lomond, where locally reared and harvested produce abound. And you can taste the cream of the crop at the Loch Lomond Shore Farmers’ Markets, which take place on the first and third Sunday of every month at Loch Lomond Shores. Fresh produce is piled high on the stalls at this bustling market, where a host of small producers turn out an array of quality food and drink. For a gourmet adventure on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, make your way to the Loch Lomond Shore Farmers’ Markets this autumn!

No two markets are the same, with an ever-changing range of unique products for sale. Much of what’s available depends on the season, but at most markets you’ll find fresh cheese, home-baked breads and cakes, seasonal vegetables, chutneys and oils, freshly baked pies, fresh meats and fabulous smoked fish. Look out for locally reared Aberdeen Angus steaks and burgers, Scottish pork and Highland beef, jams, marmalades, local honey, soup and eggs. Don’t miss the chilli oils and sauces by Senga's Chilli Kitchen, the fabulous artisan cheeses by Comrie-based Strathearn Cheese Company and Cedar Cottage Country Food’s very own Hairy Beast Steak Pies. If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll find plenty of traditional Scottish home baking, handmade fudge and tablet on offer. You can even pick up some gourmet treats for your dog!

Lomond Shores Farmers’ Market is a great place to find a unique gift, with handmade jewellery, Scottish themed framed art, plaques, vintage-style pocket watches and more to tempt you. We love the vegan soaps and organic toiletries from Kirkintilloch-based Caurnie Soaperie.

Check the Loch Lomond Farmers’ Market Facebook page for full details of the traders attending the individual markets. The markets kick off at 10am and run until around 4pm.

There’s plenty to do at Loch Lomond Shores, so why not make a day of it? There’s a wide range of shopping, eating and outdoor activities and events for all the family - all on the beautiful shores of Loch Lomond. Work up an appetite by hiring a bike, pedal boat, segway or canoe from In Your Element. Or how about a boat cruise on Loch Lomond with Sweeney’s Cruises? Other attractions include the Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre, the RSPB Shop for Nature, the Loch Lomond Sealife Aquarium and a play park.

Loch Lomond Shores is just a short drive from Glasgow. You can cycle from Glasgow on this 20-mile Sustrans Cycle Route. If you do then you’ll certainly have earned a treat or two from the market and you can always catch the train back to town from Balloch.
