Isle of Gigha Winter Festival & Ceilidh, 2017

16th - 17th December
Head to Gigha for the first Gigha Winter Festival. The festival's timing is to commemorate the sinking of the Russian factory ship, the Kartli, which sank off the west coast of Gigha in 1991. Last year the Russian Consul General requested that he and a party of guests visited Gigha to mark the 25th anniversary of the disaster. This year, the festival will be celebration of the friendship between Russia and Gigha.

Bring a chink of light in the winter dark with a craft fair, guided walks in Achamore gardens and Grandfather Frost's grotto. There will be a church service and wreath laying ceremony at the Kartli memorial cairn on Sunday 17th December.

The highlight of the festival is the evening ceilidh on Saturday 16th December featuring Lorne MacDougall - one of Scotland's most innovative traditional musicians; and Christine Kydd - an award-winning singer and recording artist who is best known for her treatment of traditional and contemporary songs . They will be joined by local musicians and the evening will involve storytelling, poetry, and more. There is a licensed bar and a simple meal is included in the ticket price. Book quickly as spaces are limited.

More information and tickets from the Gigha Trust Office. £12 Adults, £6 concessions, under 5's free.
