Loch Lomond and Helensburgh

Loch Lomond sits at the heart of The Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Just 30 minutes from Glasgow, it marks the first rise of the Highlands and is the embodiment of the scenic Scottish splendour. Picnic on the ‘bonnie, bonnie banks’ or take a boat trip or explore Inchcailloch, one of the loch’s 37 islands.

The surrounding area is renowned for hiking and biking, and there are fantastic trails and cycle paths for all levels of ability. The magnificent Arrochar Alps offer some of the best hill walking and climbing in Argyll. The jagged ridge of Ben Arthur, better known as ‘The Cobbler’, is perhaps the most iconic and enticing of the peaks.

The A82 hugs the west bank of Loch Lomond and is a magnificent drive. Keep going until you hit the Drover’s Inn at Inverarnan, where you’ll find roaring fires, barmen in kilts, stuffed animals and some great pub food.

Try and squeeze in a visit to the lovely town of Helensburgh. With broad avenues, piers, promenades, shops and eateries, it’s a great place to spend a day.
