By bus or by train

By bus
National coach services run from cities and towns across Scotland to many of the larger towns in the area, including Campbelltown, Tarbet, Lochgilphead, Dunoon and Oban, where you can link to local services.

Argyll and Bute Council offer detailed public transport guides which include local bus companies that operate across the region. West Coast Motors operates throughout most of the region. Larger islands including Mull and Bute have regular bus services, while smaller islands are more likely to offer minibuses or taxis. There are also a couple of postbuses operating in the region, which provide a minibus service along rural postal routes.

By train
The train journey from Glasgow to Oban, part of the world-famous West Highland Line, must be one of the most scenic journeys in the world. Run by First Scotrail, other train stations on the route include Arrochar and Tarbet, Bridge of Orchy, Connel Ferry, Dalmally, Falls of Cruachan, Garelochhead, Loch Awe and Taynuilt. Othe Argyll & The Isles train stations in Ardlui, Helensburgh and Cardross. Trains to Gourock link with the ferry to Dunoon while trains to Wemyss Bay link to the ferry to Bute.
