Hostelling is a fun, affordable way to explore Argyll and the Isles. For those not recently acquainted with hostelling, it has had a true renaissance in the last decade. The accommodation on offer is excellent, sometimes even including private rooms and en-suites.

Hostels are also described as bunkhouses, backpackers and lodges, but what makes hostelling special is the shared kitchen and dining facilities which keep costs down and make the experience very sociable. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are often drying rooms and equipment storage as well as first-hand, friendly advice and local knowledge from the owner.

In Argyll and the Isles there are a number of Scottish Youth Hotel Association (SYHA) hostels and several hostels which are members of Scottish Independent Hostels Association (SIH). These are ndividually owned and quality assured by VisitScotland.

The Oban hostels are ideal as a base for exploring the Argyll mainland or as a launchpad for island-hopping by ferry to the islands. The island hostels offer a true Hebridean adventure, often in the most idyllic scenic location.

Find out more about each hostel on SYHA website, the Argyll and the Isles page of the SIH website and more about Scottish independent hostels at
