Golfing

Argyll and the Isles is home to some of the most scenic golf courses in the world and the perfect place for a Scottish golfing break. Set in outstanding coastal locations, the courses offer breath-taking views from every tee. With thirty courses in total, there’s something for everyone, from the beginner to the scratch golfer. Each course has its own distinctive character and offers a wide variety of challenges. Scots are passionate about golf, so expect a warm welcome and great hospitality out on the course and back in the 19th.

At Machrihanish Golf Club you play off the only opening tee in the world that requires you to carry the Atlantic or at least part of it! This spectacular course has earned its place in the world's top 100. Ten of Argyll’s golf courses are found on the islands. Machrie on Islay is an eighteen-hole links course, laid out in 1891. The views across Laggan Bay are striking. And if the weather turns, well, you can always head to the distilleries. Another gem is the nine-hole Kyles of Bute golf course – a well-kept secret. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the hillside above Kames, the golf course offers panoramic views across the water to the Island of Bute. Watch out for wandering sheep and circling birds of prey.
