Bute Forest

Community-owned Rhubodach Forest is an area of ancient woodland, commercial forest, moorland and coast on the Isle of Bute.

The West Island Way runs through the forest and a popular walk, the Balnakailly Loop, joins the ruins of the Balnakailly Settlement with the control bunker for a WW2 decoy village and makes for a scenic and wildlife-rich four-mile walk.

The forest contains interesting archaeological sites including charcoal burning platforms and the remains of farmsteads.

There are many events in the forest throughout the year from bench making to bushcraft.
