Museum Of Islay Life

Taigh-tasgaidh Muinntir Ile

10,000 years of Islay history on display! Visit Islay’s delightful museum, situated in the former Free Church in Port Charlotte just opposite Yan’s Kitchen.

Founded in 1977, the museum has built up an extensive collection of objects, books and photographs reflecting the variety of life on Islay. Come and see the displays, from Mesolithic flint tools to an illicit still, Victorian toys to sporting trophies, old crofting tools to household objects, shipwrecks to dairy equipment.

There's lots to see for all the family, and quizzes for children. The library is available for research. The shop offers a range of books and attractive gifts.

Wheelchair access to all areas except the library.

Open 30th March to the end of October.
