Kinlochlaich Gardens

These wonderful gardens surround the historic Kinlochlaich House and are open for all to enjoy. Like many gardens on the west coast, the mild climate of the Gulf Stream enables an amazing range of plants to grow and thrive. The octagonal walled garden was built around 1790 and continues to be a sheltered haven full of plants. It also houses one of the leading plant nurseries in Scotland, containing a very wide selection of plants, , including many unusual varieties. Within the walled garden there is an area for fruit and vegetables, included a polytunnel which provides extra warmth and shelter for sweetcorn, French beans, courgettes, strawberries etc. In another polytunnel there are peaches, figs and grapes. The gardens extend to a bluebell woodland walk and Spring garden, with many mature rhododendron, enkianthus, camellia, magnolia, acer, sorbus and more.

Opening: The Gardens and Garden Centre are open everyday from March to mid October. In the winter from mid October to end February the Garden Centre is open by appointment – phone Fiona 078 8152 5754.

Admission: £2.50 donation to Scotland’s Garden Scheme.

Location: On the A828 between Oban and Fort William in the village of Appin. The entrance to Kinlochlaich House is signposted beside the Police Station on the main road 300 metres north of the Port Appin junction.
