Ardkinglas Woodland Gardens & Gruffalo Trail

Situated on the shores of Loch Fyne against a spectacular background of mountain and forest, Ardkinglas Woodland Gardens is a lovely place to walk and explore. It's open all the year round, and has an outstanding collection of plants and trees. You'll find historic rhododendrons, Patagonian Cypress from the Conifer Conservation programme and the “mightiest conifer in Europe”, a magnificent Silver Fir (Abies alba). Don't miss the unique scriptorium with its quotes from Spike Milligan to Voltaire.

Ardkinglas Woodland Garden is also home to The Gruffalo Trail, which follows a short route through the woodland. After a five minute walk from the car park, a metalwork sculpture of the mouse greets visitors at the start of the trail, where you can pick up a map. The trail follows a short route through an atmospheric area of the woods. At the end of the path, near the lochan where water lilies flower in the summer, the Gruffalo sculpture is hidden, waiting to surprise exploring children.

Open 365 days of the year, dawn to dusk. Entry £5, family £15.

Entrance is from the village of Cairndow just off the A83 at the head of Loch Fyne.
