The Isle of Ulva

The tiny island of Ulva sits just off the west coast of Mull, and makes a great day trip.

There are a number of way-marked walks and tracks on Ulva that have been set up to help you to explore the island. You can also bring a bike across, though be aware that there are no tarmac roads on Ulva so a mountain bike would be advisable.

Sheilas's Cottage is well worth a visit. This faithful reconstruction of a traditional thatched croft house which was last lived in early this century by Sheila MacFadyen, give's a fascinating insight into the island's history.

The Boathouse, a licensed tearoom, specialises in fresh local shellfish landed from the family fishing boat, and home baking. They also serve a selection of homemade soups, rolls and daily specials. It's a fabulously scenic spot.

The ferry to Ulva runs on demand - summon it by uncovering the red panel at the ferry station.
