Kilmartin Glen

There are more than 800 ancient monuments within a six-mile radius of the village of Kilmartin and many of them are are prehistoric. This extraordinary concentration and diversity of monuments distinguishes the Kilmartin Glen as an area of outstanding archaeological importance. It's one of Scotland’s richest prehistoric landscapes. You'll find standing stones, stones circles, cairns and decorated rocks. The famous linear cemetery of burial cairns trun down the floor of the Kilmartin Glen and is linked to the standing stones, stone circles and rock art. There are five remaining cairns in the alignment, although there may originally have been more.

Kilmartin Museum is an award-winning centre for archaeology and landscape interpretation that protects, investigates and interprets this internationally important archaeological landscape and the artefacts that have been found here.
